ANIMAL HEALTH CERTIFICATES (AHCs)
Regardless of the mode of transportation, traveling to an EU country requires an AHC
An Animal Health Certificate (AHC) is required when traveling from Great Britain (England, Wales, Scotland) to an EU country or Northern Ireland with a dog, cat, or ferret.
Key points about the AHC:
- A maximum of 5 pets can be included on one AHC.
- The AHC must be issued no more than 10 days prior to entry into the EU or Northern Ireland.
- The pet's AHC will be valid for:
- 10 days for entry into the EU or Northern Ireland.
- 4 months for onward travel within the EU or Northern Ireland after initial entry.
- 4 months for re-entry to Great Britain.

An EHC must be completed when traveling to a non-EU country to ensure that your pet meets the health requirements of the destination country.
It is the pet owner's responsibility to check for any additional restrictions and requirements of the destination country before the journey.
